Adobe Captivate is an 'e-learning authoring tool'. It allows the creation of simulations or 'interactive learning' presentations, typically by capturing screenshots or full-motion video, and adding interactive elements to these. (In this way, it is similar to Global Knowledge's OnDemand application.) It also supports the import of Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, converting these to Macromedia Flash format, which is the primary output form (although output to Microsoft Word is also supported).

Captivate modules can include quizes (including multiple choice, fill in the blank and true/false questions) and the scores can be fed back to an LMS. Tests developed using Questionmark Perception can also be incorporated into Captivate modules.

Captivate is SCORM and AICC compliant.

Captivate was originally developed and marketed by Macromedia, but has since been bought by Adobe, who offer it as a part of their Technical Communications Suite.
