Apostrophe

An apostrophe is used to indicate posession, or the omission of one or more letters in a word (or series of words).

Invoices are generated via SAPs AP module. Invoices are generated via SAP's AP module.
You can cut 'n paste text. You can cut 'n' paste text.

(Both the leading "a" and the trailing "d" are omitted from the "and", and so two apostrophes are required. Note that you'd never want to use this text anyway - "cut and paste" should be used.)

An apostrophe is not the same as a single quotation mark, although most computer keyboards have only a single key for both. Quotation marks are typically angled (see the HTML the charcters for left single quote [&#145: ] and right single quote [&#146: ], whereas an apostrophe is more likely to be vertical (see the HTML character for apostrophe [&#039: ' ]). Most wordprocessors automatically correct this.
