Competency

When used within the context of training, a competency is defined as the ability to produce a desired outcome, typically through the use of a specific system, process, or item of equipment. Competency (on the part of the individual) typically requires having both knowledge of the subject and the skills necessary to be able to perform the task.

Competencies are often used to drive the definition of curricula. Competencies are also often used to define roles.
