Illustrations: Exploded view
From TechWriter Wiki
An exploded view is a type of illustration where the object being illustrated has been separated out into its component parts. Typically, these parts are arranged within the illustration in their approximate relative positions.
Example: An example of an exploded view of a railway signaling lamp
Exploded views are well-suited for use in parts lists and assembly/disassembly instructions.
One problem with exploded views is that of space. Sometimes, once the components have been separated out, there is insufficient space on the printed page to show all components in the correct relative positions. A common solution to this is to stagger the centerline (typically into a 'Z' formation).
