Resite
From TechWriter Wiki
Resite is a software product that can be used to generate documentation for SAP. It works by capturing all of the screens you go through, fields you use, data you enter, buttons you select, etc., then writing all of this information to a Word document in a structured format.
Resite allows you (via Resite Publisher) to link to SAP via a 'Custom Help' menu option on SAP's menu bar. When this new menu option is selected, a list of Resite-generated documentation for that transaction is displayed. The vendor claims that this involves 'no additional software installation for end users', but it must require some kind of SAP configuration - most likely to get the new menu option in place and to get this to point to the documentation repository. It is also possible to have the documentation index based on job role.
Resite publisher consists of:
- Resite Recorder: captures the info
- Content Creator: creates the web content
- Content Scheduler: Allows publishing to be scheduled at predefined intervals
- Content Launcher for SAP R/3: Provides the context-sensitive help. Consists of:
- SAP Web Help Import: Run on SAP system. Maps 'eAssistant' job aids to transactions
- SAP Web Help Menu Repair: Run on SAP system. Adds the menus
- SAP Configuration Wizard: Run on workstation to tell Creator where to publish to
Technicalities
Resite always captures to a Word document. Resite ships with a handful of templates that you can use (and presumably tweak), and although you can develop your own, Resite aren't particularly keen on you doing this, and don't offer much in the way of support if you do.
When publishing to the Web, Resite uses its Publisher component. This uses a variation on HTML Transit to do the actual conversion.
