User actions

Use the following guidelines when describing the actions that a user needs to take:

  • They click a button on the screen - they do not 'press'.
  • They press a key on the keyboard - they do not 'hit' or 'push' (see also Keystrokes).
  • They choose an option button - they do not 'select', 'tick' or 'click' (see also Option buttons).
  • They select or clear a check box - they do not 'choose', 'tick' or 'click' (see also Check boxes).
  • They enter data into an input field - they do not 'input' or 'type'.
  • They select a tabbed page - they do not 'click' or 'choose' (see also Tabbed pages).
  • They point to, select, choose and click a menu path (see also Menus).
